Fisherman’s cottages

Fisherman’s cottages

The fishermen cottages S’Estalella are located in the fishing village of Sa Punta de S’Estalella, one of the only fishing villages settled in southern Majorca during the sixteenth century. Due to its architectural and anthropological value, it was listed as asset of cultural interest (BIC) by the Council of Majorca. It can be said that it is a unique area in Majorca.

S’Estalella lays in the protected area of ”la Marina de Llucmajor” in the south of Majorca.
It is one of the most beautiful areas of the island, with large protected areas as the amazing beach of Es Trenc, the enigmatic Cap de Ses Salines or the magical National Park of the island of Cabrera.

With 300 hectares and 4 kilometres of pristine coastline, the rural property of s’Estalella is a large natural area. The location of the fishermen cottages is perfect: they face east, towards the bay of Es Trenc where they are protected from the prevailing wind from the west.

From the cottages, a few meters from the shore, through sandy paths along the coast, one can reach the west coast, abrupt and cliffy scenery dominated by the vast sea and strong winds in winter.

The coastal area of s’Estalella is populated by majestic Mediterranean pine forests, planted on a relic dune system of great geological value. The interior is dedicated to farming and hunting.

Characteristics of fishermen’s cottages

All the fisherman’s cottages have been renovated with the aim of offering comfort and sustainability, always respecting the traditional elements of Mallorcan construction. The layout, size, and original elements of the rural houses have been kept intact.

In the fisherman’s cottages, you can enjoy structures with wooden beams from the trees of the estate or from the ribs of ships that were sunk long ago.

The floors and bathrooms of the fisherman’s cottages are made of original clay tiles, the walls are of exposed marés stone (sandstone extracted from the quarries of the estate by the fishermen) more than a meter thick; the countertops of the bathrooms and kitchens are made from pines from the estate’s forests, fallen in winter storms. The fisherman’s cottages in Mallorca combine traditional elements and a rustic style with simple lines.

All rural houses have a large terrace with sea views and each one has its own access to the beach. A shed made with pine branches in fisherman style protects from the scorching summer sun while letting through the “embat” (the cool sea breeze that accompanies every summer day and cools it down).

A delight for the senses! Simply a unique place
