Festival of San Sabastián in Majorca

January is one the months devoted to village’s annual local festivals in the island of Majorca. It starts January 16 with the eve of the Sant Antoni Festival and leads to the festival of San Sebastián.

The festivities of Sat Sebastián or Sant Sebastià are celebrated during a large part of the month but the feast day of the patron saint of Majorca is January 20th.

The Sant Sebastià festival is one of the most popular feasts and tourist attraction of the island of Majorca. A wide variety of culture and leisure events are held in honor of the patron.

San Sebastián, the saint patron of Palma de Mallorca

Sant Sebastián is a saint dating from 1523, in times of German rebellions, and its appearance coincides with the eradication of epidemic plague. For this reason, it was declared patron of Palma de Mallorca.

The schedule of the San Sebastián festival changes every year but is maintains its essence over two weeks. It has a wide variety of activities and concerts that fill the streets and squares of the city with traditional music and dance.
